Estimation of climate change impacts on the agriculture sector and food security

The document analyzes the impacts due to climate change depending on the fulfillment of emission reduction (mitigation) commitments and national adaptation actions in agriculture and food security within the framework of the Paris Agreement. From damage functions to yields of eight crops in mitigation and adaptation scenarios and viewed under three perspectives (whole economy, industry and households).

Considering that Colombia is a climate taker, the model results reinforce the idea that Colombia must adapt, with impacts of up to 0.14% in GDP. It is evident that welfare will be negatively impacted by scenarios of non-compliance with the Paris Agreement, with losses in the profits of buyers of products up to 10 times the value without climate shock.

For food security, from a household income perspective, a shock in unprocessed food implies income losses of up to 20%. In terms of calorie consumption, there is a negative impact between 2.4% and 5% due to the shock suffered by foods processed by the industry. test
